Please provide a clear picture of the Board top so that we can see the resistors and the associated color bands.

Changes for v3r2 were purely cosmetic and minor.

Also can you post a clear photo of the 2N5457 face just so we can see the logo imprint.

Your voltage readings should be half the supply voltage however the readings on the 2nd set of transistors are in the right range of functionality for that particular transistor which is why they sound good. There are many reasons why the bias could be off which we would have to explore.

So I am planning a Chase Set or two. These are not final btw…

Keep them coming folks if you want in!

    Hi Dan,

Re: I cant see the bass, treble, gain and volume pot locations on the PCB

The labeling for the Pots Controls are silk-screened on the other side of the PCB and are labeled appropriately.

Note: This also includes a #1 in the silk-screen to signify orientation at each location.

Re: I’m a bit confused regarding the correct potentiometer taper to use

You may absolutely and easily change the Taper to your liking.

This is our personal preference to make it feel more natural for most guitarists (a very common complaint). So when we finally jumped on the band wagon we decided to address those complaints. While we understand how the original circuit works it is not always intuitive to every guitar player and since we are not that concerned with cloning we will implement modifications if we see a positive gain. Please use whatever taper works best for you. If you prefer to hand wire the pot and change lugs 3 and 1 as you already mentioned that is perfectly fine.

Our version is by design and the way we like it to be clear so there is no “reader confusion”.

Maybe build two and have a few guitar players do a blind comparison. 😉

    I hope that helps.

I really need some more Pedal Photos please.

Here are a few I have put into a card format to show what the circuits are and what they can look like.

You could socket that section and test it.

Glad you got it sorted out.

What is your power supply voltage to the project?

Not sure how that got by me but I will update the Build Doc tonight.

    This should help.

If you do not use the boost at the same time in series with the OD portion it is basically a Medium Gain OD as long as you do not turn everything up. The tone knob works fine for a basic passive tone control on mine. It is not a Tone TwEQ but it works as it should. If yours does not I might suggest posting some photos to see if there is a something wrong.

    For comparison:

    Plus 1 on Gain Mapping.

In the case of the combo pedal above playing the circuits in tandem and in Parallel will be much easier to play “noise free” since one circuit is not literally blowing in the doors of one or the other. You are just getting a nice representation of each circuit on their own and at the same time. You can still get a very heavy tone. What I also like is setting one circuit of a “tandem pair” for a low grungier tone and the other either higher or perhaps with a mid bump to offset and compliment the other and doing that is much more “apparent” than if you tried it in series.

Everything above is really easy to test out using our Paramix circuit BTW!

You need to connect two wires so there is power to the 3PDT Wiring Board.

Other than that it looks great.

Coincidentally I was looking at the “commercial pedal” about a week ago MXR Phase 99.

It has dual phasers synced and was thinking about how cool it would be to have the Dr. Phybes and The Vibe synced. They each have a unique quality on their own but it would be very interesting to not only sync them but Blend them. The Phase 90 by itself inverts the Phase so having a dual circuit allows for them to do stereo. A Blend here would be nice also.

A Blend control is finally becoming more prevalent in commercial pedals and no doubt why my Buff N Blend Add-on Boards over the last 8 years are so popular. Blending your tone is so helpful IMHO.

“a close study of the circuit exposed the fact that there is a but a single entry point of the ‘Rate’ & ‘Depth’ signal to the CD4047 clock chip – at the wiper of the ‘Depth’ pot. By interrupting the junction of the ‘Depth’ pot wiper to the PCB, a tap-point could be made wherein a DPDT (On-On-On) toggle switch could be used to determine which set of ‘Rate’ & ‘Depth’ controls fed to the CD4047 clock chips.”

Wow. Excellent. This gives me a lot of thoughts.

Thanks for the excellent build story and kudos to thinking outside the board.
