BarryKeymasterThat sounded awesome!
A very good demo actually as well.

BarryKeymasterAwesome Job.
Combos are what we love here at GuitarPCB.
If you do not explore the infinite possibilities of Combos then Doom On You!
BarryKeymasterI tested and updated the Build Document
I also updated the drill template graphic to include Pot Names.
Thank you.
BarryKeymasterGlad to see this all worked out!
BarryKeymasterNot sure how that one got through but I think it must be an isolated incident.
Anyway thanks for the heads up.

BarryKeymasterYah when I was 9 we went to Va Beach and we needed T Shirts at night when it cooled off so my Parental unit found the cheapest Tees he could and bought us all matching Tees with these characters on them and underneath each character picture was text indicating different types of WEED. Like Alcapulco Gold and Panama Red.
We had no idea why everyone was looking at us while playing Putt – Putt or bouncing on the Trampolines. It only took a few years for me to figure it all out.
That said I love them!!!
BarryKeymasterI would also list the Voltages of all 3 transistors in order.
Q1: D S G
Q2: D S G
Q3: D S G
BarryKeymasterYah what he is saying is make sure that Tip is actually Tip on the square Jacks. (Your Yellow Wires)
Use your DMM in continuity mode to verify.
Like he said if there is no signal in bypass that pretty much indicates bad jack wiring.
Another possibility could be bad patch cables

BarryKeymasterI SUPER love this!
Way to employ the Mod boards to create a SUPER versatile Combo build with a small footprint!
BarryKeymasterUse quality stranded wire which needs to be tinned at the very least.
My wire in the SHOP is bonded and then tinned so it has all the strength of solid core with the flexibility of stranded. It is also the perfect gauge for our circuit boards.
Then make sure that the wire is soldered to the board with the sleeve absolutely flush with the board.
I have more than 2,000 prototype boards from over 15 years in more than 20 different shoe boxes and I will say it is rare that a wire snaps off. I have messed around with headers and honestly it seems like a lot of extra work when I really do not have an issue requiring them.
You would be surprised how much a difference it makes to have good wire.
I hope that helps.
BarryKeymasterGlad you figured it out. Be sure to post your finished builds in the show off section.
BarryKeymasterThe circuit is meant to have the tone control turned up full exactly like your Guitar’s tone control and then roll off high frequencies from there as desired. If you start with the tone control centered it would be the same as turning your guitar tone control to center. If you really want to do a useful mod insert the Tone TwEQ and replace the simple passive filter in the circuit with a 3 Band Active EQ which has boost and cut.

BarryKeymaster“is there a shortage or something?”
The reason is because Germanium transistors have been out of production since the 70’s.
Additionally they have been cherry picked over the last 40-50 years. (especially since eBay started).
That said I will be offering some transistors sets here soon that will sound great in both Germanium and Silicon.
They will be hand tested. You will have to be patient till I get everything ready.
BarryKeymasterYah don’t give up yet.
Apparently Bruce is going to take care of you.
So I suggest using sockets when populating and do them right after populating the resistors since they are the next in line regarding height. This way it is easier to populate and to test for issues and also make substitutions.
Also I suggest using the 20k trimmer as it will work better for J113 or MPF102 and the difference in turn is negligible.
BarryKeymasterWhat is the voltage on the Drain Pin of Q4 (J113). (Google datasheet if needed)
It needs to be biased between 4.5v to 6.5v for everything to sound right.
Directions for biasing are in the document.
You should have been able to Bias properly even with a 2k4 resistor and you likely needed the 20k trimmer as 5k may not be enough. If it is not Biased properly it will not work right.
That said if you get a good Bias reading with the 5k trimmer all is well. If you cannot do not remove the Trimmer again since you can damage the board. You will have to compensate by raising the value of R22.
One thing at a time though. What is the current voltage of the Drain Pin of Q4?
BarryKeymasterThanks I will update that.
BarryKeymasterI think I should be included in this list now as well.
While I may not have the volume or selection of others I do carry many of the “Hard To Find” items that the others never have in stock for example Original Ratt Chips, 2N5952 Quad sets, BBD Chorus chips, TO-5 sockets as well as many hard to find transistors like MPF102, 2N5457 and J201.
Overall I carry 70 unique items now and growing weekly. Many of them are not available at the other stores. Most items ship worldwide except for the thicker items like IC chips due to a large increase in shipping cost for 3/4 Inch package thickness rule.
