BarryKeymasterThe two circuits by schematic would be identical so the difference is either an error (most likely) or just the differences in tolerance of components.
A faulty component (anything)
Possibly a heat damaged component (transistor)

It really cannot be much else to describe that much of a difference.
I guess it is good to know that one of them sounds like you would expect.

BarryKeymasterLove it!
BarryKeymasterIt is possible. Perhaps someone plugged it in once with the wrong power supply for one example.
BarryKeymasterMy idea is if it worked and then did not work is you have an intermittent connection somewhere so recheck and reflow all off-board wiring as well as the components on the board.
BarryKeymasterHi, he meant to make sure the transistors in the sockets are not loose.
My best advise is to re-flow the entire board and all off-board wiring since that is the most likely cause.
Standard Operating Procedure for such an event.
BarryKeymasterVery Nice. Thanks for sharing.
For about 10 years I did an acoustic gig on Tuesday nights with a girl, we went by Barry and Maureen.
Find the related humor there.
BarryKeymasterI will mention that if you are using a 500k Pot there is a larger amount of slow phasing in the rotation so from full anti-clockwise to say 12:00 it might not sound like there is a whole lot going on because the phasing is slow.
You could try a 100k Pot instead which is my preference.
Where you put your Phase (pre or post) distortion will also make a big difference when used with distortion or fuzz.
Pre-distortion or Fuzz is much less dramatic but this is my personal preference as well.
BarryKeymaster“I blame Barry for this. He makes too many darn good circuits to build.”
I am happy to oblige. It is truly a way of life for me now.
Here is a short demo I made:

BarryKeymasterMost people do not typically socket the brick unless they want to try other bricks maybe.
The brick is probably too heavy to work well with a socket.
That said you still can do it easily by cutting a 16 Pin IC Socket in half.

BarryKeymasterNow that I am coordinated I can put my new PUFF V5s up for sale in the SHOP
Part numbers and values are the same but they now have on board pots.

BarryKeymasterLove it in all ways. Thanks for sharing…

BarryKeymasterMy sweet lord those look great!
BarryKeymasterGot tickets for Roger Waters thanks to Bruce but were cancelled due to Covid. Just got an update that the show is back on,
08/16/22
Check the last two numbers.
BarryKeymasterWell done on all counts!
Congrats.
