mybudModeratorThanks, appreciate the compliment.
BTW it has some very nice sounds on tap. Had some fun with it this afternoon. Makes you want to spend more time with it, the mark of a great pedal TMM.
mybudModeratorNeat build, looking great.
mybudModeratorHey Todd: I don’t think you should apologise in the slightest for the demos. To my ears they sound great and I’m also a bass player FWIW. Anyone who has worked out ‘The wind cries Mary’ is more than ok in my book and the other excerpts bring out the Hendrix UniVibe vibe very nicely indeed. Great job.
I suppose the acid test is whether or not I’d want to order to try for myself and this new one of Barry’s is a Great Leap Forward from the original one knob Vibe which I built awhile back and didn’t quite get at the time. I’m waiting on the restock to get my hands on the new improved version.
mybudModeratorCaptures the mood to a T.
mybudModeratorSounds fab, not to mention the man himself on the pedal face.
mybudModeratorLooking great. Can’t wait for mine to arrive.
mybudModeratorWow. Just wow.
mybudModeratorOut of the park, Chris. And ‘phirst’ is tops. Inspiring stuff.
mybudModeratorGreat build, diggin’ the humorous graphic.
mybudModeratorThanks, Chris, appreciate your kind comments. Best of luck with your plan.
mybudModeratorMany moons ago I transcribed Robbie Krieger’s solo note for note for an album I recorded which included some of covers of some of my favourite songs. Not for commercial release.
It’s a great song and proof of Krieger’s musicianship in a simple but well-crafted solo. TMM the Doors’ songwriting abilities are mostly overshadowed by the controversy and mythology around Morrison and they are as under-rated as Jack Bruce and Pete Brown. My 2c worth. Thanks again and stay well.
mybudModeratorBeautiful, CC. The name says it all…
The first chord progression is based on ‘You’re lost little girl’ if I’m not mistaken? Feel free to correct me if not 🙂
Great stuff.
mybudModeratorLooking good.
mybudModeratorClearly three will sound three times better. *Wink*
mybudModeratorGreetings Wayne. This is not a circuit I’ve built myself and your interpretation appears right regarding the pot value in question. My suggestion is first that the circuit is correct as it stands because the brains trust here tests them before they go for release. Perhaps try breadboarding it to see (hear) what’s going on. Sorry I can’t offer you a better explanation but I regularly breadboard circuits to see whether or not they’re appropriate for my setup.
mybudModeratorDifficult to tell from the pic but it seems you might have mixed up the value of R6. Looks to me like R6 is 3300 (3k3) when it should be 330k (330000). But don’t take my word for it necessarily and double-check this and verify.
I suspect that this might cause the circuit not to function as it should. If you still don’t get sound after swapping this (given I’m correct here), then the problem lies elsewhere and we’ll deal with it accordingly. Looks like your offboard wiring (jacks to switch, etc.) is correct as borne out by the LED functioning as it’s meant to.
For future reference, try to orient the resistors consistently (with tolerance band to bottom or left as the case may be). Do the same for the caps. Makes troubleshooting much simpler.
mybudModeratorYou’re very welcome. The suggestion regarding R32 was clearly a senior moment on my part, apologies.
I’d try the following steps:
- Double-check all component values in case there’s an incorrect cap or resistor value that’s crept in somehow
- If all of these check out, try gently cleaning the solder side with isopropyl alcohol. As far as I can see, the joints look good (no dry joints or other issues), but it doesn’t hurt to give it a good clean in any case
- Try bypassing the footswitch and connecting your ins and outs direct to the board (use alligator clips). If that works, then you’ve eliminated the footswitch as a possible problem. Not common, but possible
- Finally, if you’ve eliminated all these possibilities, try slowly adjusting the trimmer. In my experience, there’s a quite narrow band within which you get the most phasing with least distortion.
Listening to the audio, that kind of weird ring modulation sounds like the trimmer’s off somehow, but I’m baffled as to how it can sound the same without the transistors in place. Make yourself an audio probe and work stepwise through the audio path till the problem reveals itself. Let us know if there’s progress.
