Yeah, I know, pictures or it did happen, but it did. Built the new Dumbletone board and didn’t screw it up! Right after completion I watched a video of the Steel String Clean Drive and started thinking I needed one. Then wondered if one could do that with the Dumbletone – yes you can. Tone up, Voice down, Gain low-ish, Volume up and it’s right there. It does a lot of other stuff real well to boot.
The folks at Love My Switches keep releasing powder coated boxes each month. This month was Subtle Silver Sparkle – looks kind of plain but when the light hits from an angle you get different colored sparkles. Seemed just the thing to use to refurbish the Blues Buster v1 that ended up in the drawer. Cleaned up my ‘interesting’ wiring and replaced the 4558 with an OPA2134PA.
Last month’s Love My Switches release was Fatal Fuchsia – described as “a two coat creation with a hot pink, glossy top coat over a silver and black vein base coat.” Sounded good for a fuzz. Had one from another vendor that was a bit disappointing until I swapped in a pair of low hfe germanium pair that Barry sold several years ago. They worked okay but the two part bias arrangement barely had enough range for the recommended transistors (original had a 5k trimmer and a 5kB pot). Replaced the pot with a 25kB and was able to dial it in great. I’ve added two small marks for -4.5v and -3.5v (a touch smoother, more compressed).
