SteveModeratorThis is a great mash up of two iconic circuits.
The ‘Mule’ preamp has a ton of overdrive and distortion tones, from smooth and bluesy to super heavy. You can tweak the gain, volume, EQ, and presence knobs to dial in the kind of sound you want. The ‘Kicker’, true to it’s Klon roots, is a super transparent overdrive pedal. It makes your guitar sound bigger and more alive. Turn the gain up, it gets this smooth, crunchy sound that’s awesome for blues or classic rock. The tone knob is really sensitive — just a little turn changes things a lot. I suggest trying this to really shape that tone you are chasing. Switch them both on and be read to be amazed.
Once again, GuitarPCB has nailed it!!

BarryKeymasterSo glad you’re digging it! I think it might be one of my favorite boost/drive combos too. I just love how you can go from a big clean push to full-on distortion using each side on its own, stacking them, or flipping the order for something totally different. It’s such a fun and flexible setup.
✅ Suggested Use Order for the Mule Kicker Pro:
Order Combination Result / Tone Description 1 Kicker (Boost) only Powerful amp boost 2 Mule (Soldano-style) only Medium gain drive w/ complete tonal control 3 Mule + Kicker (Switch → Mule) Guitar solo tone / w/ lead boost 4 Kicker + Mule (Switch → Kicker) Extreme saturation / high-gain madness ?? BarryKeymasterNote: This combo is meant to be run at 9v.
The 7660 charge pump is only capable of handling 10v. Anything above that can fry it. Hopefully the zener diode will prevent that but it may not. There’s no reason to use 18v b/c you already have the Soldano running at +/-9 and the Klon side runs off +18v/-9v (for one half of the circuit at least). Both circuits already have as much headroom as needed by design. So, you should only use 9v max for the Mule Kicker.May 5, 2025 at 8:38 pm #36166Steve Walker
