    Morning all.

I picked up the Rat deluxe kit to make for a christmas present for a mate, but, Im slightly stumped.

If I connect the guitar, I have a bypassed signal, but if I engage the pedal I get nothing. I tried it on a power supple and a 9v battery.

Id really appreciate it if anyone could cast there eye over this and see is it something glaringly obvious

    Thank

    Hi Beasley

Post a picture where we can see and trace your wiring to in and out jacks, dc jack and battery snap

Chip is in backwards I believe.

The dot on the chip represents Pin 1.

The red wire to ground on the top right corner didnt feel right to me but I thought thats what the wiring diagram said, im wondering might that be it

Never knew the chip could be backwards. I turned it round but no joy.

Switches are not installed. SW1 and SW2.

See Ratt Clipping Chart in build guide and BOM on Page 1 or schematic.

Install the correct switch to the correct pads to complete the circuit.

Thank Barry, that was an utter brain fart on my behalf. Thanks for your continued help on this. Its melting my head slightly.

Switches now installed, but still no joy. The battery seemed to be getting hot too?

The battery +9v wire should go to the middle lug on the DC jack you’ve also got your other red +9v wire going to a ground pad on the 3PDT pcb

    Thanks Billy.
    Im definitely getting closer

If I connected it to a mains and had the battery connected, she worked, no LED but it worked. I was trying to work out what the deal was with the battery having to be connected to I removed the 9v snap on and Im back to having nothing again.

Im feeling slightly better that it at least made noise this time.

If you look here you’ll see how the DC jack should be wired

Perhaps have a read through the post also a ratt deluxe

Ye are legends, each and every one of ye to a man.

Its works! It makes noises! And I put the back on and it works!

The last stumbling block is the led? Iv swapped it round the other way thinking Id it in back to front but no joy.
    Any words of wisdom?

You are missing a CLR (current Limiting Resistor) on the 3PDT wiring board.  Try 1K8 – 4K.  Higher resistance = dimmer light.  Also I believe you are trying to use a 3 wire bi-colour LED.  I believe that board used a standard 2 wire single colour board.

    Balls.
I must have stuck one in somewhere else wrong so, Iv nothing else left over. Could I use a piece of wire ?

Sadly, no.  If you try to use a bare wire, you will destroy the LED instantly.  The LED must have some resistance in order to survive.

I know what you did!  You installed a 3K3 resistor into R12 on the RATT board.  That is your CLR!

You have 2 ways to go now.  If you want to have the bi-colour LED, you can remove it from the foot switch board and install it on the main RATT board.  You will need to add the wires from S4, S5 and S6 to the footswitch.  Then disconnect power from the foot switch board.

Your second choice is to remove the CLR from R12 and install it on the foot switch board.  You can then use just one colour of the LED by using just 2 of the LED wires.  The middle wire is the anode (+).  Clear?

    Great Success Wilkie!

She works! She’s in and all is right in the world again!
    Cheers for all the help
