Barry does this a lot with clipping diode markings- if you look at it, one option is for LEDs, with the flat side of the bulb lining up with the drawing. If you chose a BAT41s or a 34, you’d match the line on the diode with the line on the PCB. Very clever.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if you’re trying to find a good R value, couldn’t you wire in a pot and test it until it squeals and then back it off and measure it? Or am I overthinking this?

I’d recommend a pretty small circuit unless you’re rehousing this whole project. That said, look through the shop, the GBOF is a super versatile board with a lot of fuzzes available with low part counts. Maybe a One Knob Fuzz for something more… spelled out if you will. Depends on how deep you want to go.

Thanks Mark. I’ll look when I get home. Got called into a gig today. The resistor looks right to me, blue, grey, black, brown but I’ll look in person. The cap I’ll have to check in person. I appreciate you looking. I’ll also try lowering the input volume.

I’ll try digging out that R3 first. I’ve tried running the pots at a reduced level and I just get quieter distortion. I definitely don’t want shorter decay, so I’m hoping this will help. Thank you.

    I think that worked.

ITS AN EASTER MIRACLE!! Thank you Barry. This is super exciting. I’ve clearly been waiting a long time. I’ll be placing my order ASAP. Or as soon as I can.

Well, I’m always one for authenticity, but my intent here is to keep it in the GPCB family, if you will. I did my research years ago and I know that if I wanted the “real” sound I’d have to hang a tank over a stage and use a pair of Bassmans but come on now. We build pedals to emulate the sounds we love. I’m going for the tribute sound here. I’ve been playing the Ancestral and I just can’t quite click with it. I think I’ll build up the Add-Verb and toy with the two together and see what they sound like.

I haven’t actually boxed up the Ancestral- I think the delay on top of the verb is throwing me off. So I’m interested in a more verby verb, which is why I was asking about the Add-Verb’s qualities. I have a tank on my Fender amp, but that’s not the point! I can’t paint that gold and put surf logos on it.

The two switches for the clipping diodes are DPDT (double pole, double throw) on/off/on switches. All major parts suppliers should have them- Mouser, Small Bear, etc…

Great looking build Barry. I have SO MANY projects lined up but I’m fiending for yet another Rat. I have a real problem and can’t help myself. If I know what’s good for me I’ll hold off until the combo contest…

Nice work. I happen to love the Ratt Deluxe here- I’ve made a bunch of them and have two more sitting in my queue waiting to go. And I’ve been itching lately for a new one… So many projects! But I’m looking forward to seeing how you finish these up.

While I *DO* like making a ton more work for myself and hand wire everything, I’ll have to look into this! My next parts order will have to have some 9mm pots. Thanks Barry and Wilkie! That’s also a great tip using the trim pot as a set-and-forget internal adjuster. Cheers.

Does it work outside the enclosure?

This is a huge blow to the community and my heart is heavy. While I didn’t know Pete personally, I feel like I knew him. He inspired me to do better and build higher knowing we’re more than what we make. But from one hobbyist to another I can say thank you for making my life a little bit better.

Thanks guys! I’m heavily leaning in the ways of the combo, so this is a toned down departure for me. But since it was for someone else it could be simple. The next bass pedal I make (as referenced in a previous post) will be a fuzzy/boosty/EQ-y thing with a mid control for my old college roommate. For the moment I’m in a unique position of having no half projects looming (except the two populated- wait, three populated boards awaiting a purpose) so I can focus on clearing off my workspace and organizing my tools and parts. We’ll see how THAT goes.

Copy that, thank you guys. This started when he saw my Plexi build with a S3 (coming soon to the forum) and my BMPOA with ToneTwEQ (posted a few weeks ago) that got him going. For the record, the BMP is being played by a bass player now and he absolutely loves it, and I did wire it that way- I’m using the TT vol pot as the master. The mid sweep was the request of the next guy asking for a pedal.

Perhaps I’ll build up a Bass OD with a TT and simply hide the High pot as a trimmer internally to show him a Vol, Drive, Mid and Low. Bet he’d love that. Throw an image of Derek Smalls on it and ship it off. Should have hit that sale last week!
