ChuckParticipantI’ve only ever built one Mastodon and it has worked perfectly for ages so I’m as worthless as teats on a bore in this thread. I do however have a lot of experience with seemingly perfect builds that don’t work – what Wilkie said works great. Set it aside for a day, week, month, or a year. You’ll probably see the obvious, glaring oops very clearly and leave a large pink palm print on your forehead.

ChuckParticipantI’ll caveat my first comment by saying that I typically don’t use batteries and stereo jacks in my builds so have no real experience with them. That said, the stereo jack looks okay. Connections on the mono jack need to be reversed – the purple from the 3PDT board needs to go to where you have the white from the main board and the white (G from the main board) needs to go where you have the purple wire attached.
With the CLR (R10) on the main board you’ll have to put the diode (LED) on the main board not the 3PDT.

ChuckParticipantGreat idea. Good job stuffing that box. The graphic and placement of the knobs and switches make me giggle.

ChuckParticipantUm, you left a little empty space there in the box.
Holy smokes that is packed in there!

Built this little beast 5 years ago – works great. You need to match some components but it’s a pretty easy build.
Chuck
ChuckParticipant1590As are challenging. Plan the build. Measure twice, measure it again then drill. I use a dentist’s pick to help with tucking the wire.
Nice work. Can’t beat a Stage 3.
ChuckParticipantThat etch is killer! Good job.
ChuckParticipantI didn’t say which morning I would try that. It worked!
Thank you,
Chuck
ChuckParticipantNice job. Very clean build.
ChuckParticipantThank you Barry. I’ll give that a shot in the morning. That makes more sense than the old BD.

ChuckParticipantI had no idea you attended the Annapolis School For Wayward Boys And Girls! Having survived 22 years in the USCG as enlisted and officer (I attended the Yorktown School For Delusional Petty Officers (which has since moved to New London with the CGA)), I tend to roll off sir or Sir frequently and automatically regardless of personnel status. When I first put on the gold bars I had to break the habit of responding to “Sir” with “Don’t call me Sir, my parents are married.”
Chuck
ChuckParticipantThank you sir. Will clean out the solder and give it another try.
ChuckParticipantWish I’d have thought of that before I finished the box!
ChuckParticipantAnd here I was wondering what to do with my last couple of GBOFs! Wow!
Chuck
ChuckParticipantThank you Barry! That is an outstanding change to a most excellent board! Great gooey fuzz, sustain for days and extra volume.
Chuck
ChuckParticipantAh, that’s sort of what I was thinking. I may have to experiment with the pickup simulator some.
How did you decide to put the 5817 where you did instead of simply replacing the 4001 on the board?
Chuck
ChuckParticipantThank you. Should have figured Jack would have an article on it – will check that out. Another question along this line – “the pickup simulator will not extend that relationship beyond one buffer” – are you referring to two (or more) buffers before a fuzz or one before and another after?
Noticed you used a simpler deployment of the 5817s on these.
