Pedal Dood
ParticipantI was wondering.
I have an ampless rig. My current signal chain is ODs/EQ —} PREAMP pedal (C2C BassDude) —} IN of Tone Geek’s Box-a-lator —} SEND to mod/delay –} RETURN of Box-a-lator –} OUT to SD Power 170 –} VOX Berkeley II 2X12 cabinet
I was thinking of building a Paramix to replace the Box-a-lator (which works fine, but ya gotta periodically fiddle around with somethin’ on your board, right?) with a Buff n’ Blend in front of it. So:
IN JACK to BnB as bypass switch —} SEND of the BnB goes to the IN of the Paramix..OUT of the Paramix back to the RETURN of the BnB to OUT JACK.. Would I then be able to use the FX Loop and the Insert while still being able to use the BLEND on the B&B to keep the primary DRY signal available? So I would be using the BnB’s BLEND pot to mix the original DRY signal and the entire Paramix..MIX.
-I could still use the Kill switch, right? How about the 100% Wet footswitch mod?
-Would this be a pointless and needlessly complicated way to do some basic shit? (i.e. hey man..just don’t use the INSERT Loop!)
Would this be a useful thing? Anyone have any other cool (and relatively easy) mod ideas to make this even more complicated and utilitarian?
Thanks

PlaysforfunModeratorYou want to fiddle? Build a Paramix. You’ll never stop trying stuff. Pointless and needless and basic? No way. First, there is nothing basic about it. I gave a Paramix away once to a guy mostly wanting ABY switchery. He gave it back as too complicated. Definitely not basic. Throw in a BnB and you’ve got texture galore available. There can be a ‘got ya’ if you aren’t a bit careful. Signal phase. In a single chain of effects you can’t tell, but along the way the sinal was amplified by both inverting and non-inverting amps (transistors and op-amps). Phase can be determined by adding up the inverting amps along the path. An odd number will change phase. The Paramix can cure this with the built in phase switch until the BnB. If what you put before the BnB IN ends up out of phase with the Paramix mix at the BnB blend, then it won’t quite sound correct. The BnB doesn’t correct phase. So in pops what everyone should have already. The Stage 3 circuit. It’s seriously, transparently, awesome and will change the phase. Set it for unity gain and use it for a phase switch when need be. In the end, mixing can create phase issues. To be the best pedalboard fiddler, one must be prepared. Happy mixing. Let us know what happens.

ParticipantNeato!
Thanks for the reply, I’m stoked! Just ordered both circuits!
So, would the best signal chain be:
IN Jack —> S3B In (on a 2pdt Toggle) —> S3B-Out —> BnB In—> BnB Send —> PARAMIX IN —> PARAMIX OUT —>BnB Return —> BnB Out —> OUT JACK?
I can use the SB3 as a pre-Paramix boost, yeah?
This sounds fun and useful! Yay!

PlaysforfunModeratorYou would have to put the Stage 3 in the BnB loop. Best spot might be between PARAMIX OUT and BnB Return. That would provide phase protection no matter what.
I’m definitely building my next Paramix like that.
