    Hi guys,

Im building the 3 in 1 Super 70’s Drive and have the Fuzz and Overdrive working but the Boost is non functional.   I have thoroughly checked the wiring and everything is correct (according to the hand wiring diagram).   The led lights appropriately but the Boost just hisses and cuts out the guitar signal.  Adjusting the trimmer just decreases or increases the hiss.  I am suspecting that the J113 is bad and suspect that I have a bad bunch of J113’s (from AliExpress).  Anyway, I was wondering if I could substitute with a MPF102 or 2N5457.   I have no idea about equivalency.  Those just came to mind.

    Thank you for your help.

2N5459 is a silicon N-Channel JFET with a drain, source, gate configuration, which the J113 also is. The bias setting will be slightly different, but TR2 allows you to adjust the bias and test for the appropriate voltage range. Your ears do a decent job, also.

I went ahead and put in the 5457.  It turned out great!  Boost is terrific.   But I’m agars if I may be stuck with a bunch of bad J113’s.  I’d recommend to others to buy from reputable dealers.

    Thanks for the help!

There is nothing wrong with using the 2N5457 at all.

You can trust every transistor, FET, IC, etc that I sell in my shop (When in stock).
