Hey all,
Just finished my first high gain distortion pedal “Sabotage”. Well it almost sabotaged me. Turns out my “inexpensive” power supply (sold to me as a pedal board power supply) is far too noisy to use as-is. It injected enough noise into the Sabotage that it was unusable. Took a while to work it out too. Anyway, now I’m wondering, what should I use? Can I add a bypass capacitor network to my current power supply to quiet it out? Or is that a waste of time? What do you use to power your pedal board?

Working out noise issues are done by using a 9v battery on a battery strap and plugged into your pedal. Since batteries do not produce noise that is a very quick and simple test to perform every time you experience odd noise.
I am not sure what you bought but I certainly would not try to continue with it.
Amazon has plenty of options under 9v negative tip 2.1mm power supply. I use Voodoo Lab. But I have also used a 1 Spot which will get you by in a pinch since the adapters will not be isolated so if you do have 1 noisy pedal that noise can be passed on down the line and amplified.
Unregulated wall warts and cheap DC bricks (also often unregulated) present a lot of DC noise (ripple). It can be cleaned up by adding a 220µF, 47µF and 10nF cap in parallel BEFORE supplying a circuit board. I know it’s a PITA to try and squeeze in those extra caps, but well worth the effort.
I have had great luck with a rockboard power supply. They recharge on a micro USB. I get can get 2 4 hour gigs off a single charge.
