I’d like to build a pedal with a one-knob tone control and I like the frequency response of the Marsha Tone.

I want a clean signal path, no distortion.  If I set the gain low and output volume at unity gain with diode switch off will I have a clean signal?  I assume I’d have to put a suitable resistor in R12.

Or is there a relatively simple way to mod the Marsha Tone to bypass the portion of the circuit that would add gain and just retain a unity gain tone control?

That should work.  If there is still some distortion, try reducing the value of R6.  That will reduce the gain of the second stage,  You may not need a resistor at R12 with those changes.  Start with a jumper and see if your VOL pot will provide the range you like.

Excellent!  Thanks very much for your reply.   It sounds like it’s worth trying so I’ll get the board and components and see what happens!  I’ll work with R6 and R12 and evaluate levels and distortion at unity gain.  I’ve been interested in trying out a GuitarPCB project so this will be a good way to get introduced to pedal building.
