InactiveI went through the recommended suppliers (Small Bear, PedalPartsAndKits) but I’m having trouble finding all the parts I need (i’m looking at the 69 Stones Drive). The buying guide mentioned in the crash course seems to be a dead link. Could anyone help out a newbie with some sources for components? It would also be helpful if there was a trick to figuring out when to use a poly film, ceramic or electrolytic capacitor – I’m looking at the picture of the board and the component list and I think I have some guesses but I’d rather not be wrong.
Thanks

ParticipantI’m a newbie also. I had trouble determining the type of capacitor at first also. Looking at the board, electrolytics will always have a plus or minus, or be shaded white on one side meaning negative. As far as film and ceramic goes, it’s the size on the board. I’ve started to recognize them by value, but I always double check the board.
Thanks for that list! There’s a few on there that I didn’t know about.

BarryKeymasterI think I should be included in this list now as well.
While I may not have the volume or selection of others I do carry many of the “Hard To Find” items that the others never have in stock for example Original Ratt Chips, 2N5952 Quad sets, BBD Chorus chips, TO-5 sockets as well as many hard to find transistors like MPF102, 2N5457 and J201.
Overall I carry 70 unique items now and growing weekly. Many of them are not available at the other stores. Most items ship worldwide except for the thicker items like IC chips due to a large increase in shipping cost for 3/4 Inch package thickness rule.
See for yourself:

Inactivethanks for theserecommendations, but, I have been down all those roads and more and am having trouble finding germanium transistors for an industrial fuzz/ puff . I ve had great results with oc42 but am willing to try others, is there any reputable place that you big dogs go to here in the US? on all the other forums I hear people talking about FAKES and never getting a package from ITALY or FRANCE so I don’t really know who to trust. y’know?!? also, id kind like to not have to pay 20 per transistor…is there a shortage or something? I noticed small bear isn’t doing sets anymore…anywho, thanks again for the great support and boards, cheers

BarryKeymaster“is there a shortage or something?”
The reason is because Germanium transistors have been out of production since the 70’s.
Additionally they have been cherry picked over the last 40-50 years. (especially since eBay started).
That said I will be offering some transistors sets here soon that will sound great in both Germanium and Silicon.
They will be hand tested. You will have to be patient till I get everything ready.
