    Hello all!,

I’m having a weird problem with getting the proper voltage on the JFET. The JFET is socketed and so is R11. I am also using a LM301 IC. With a 2N5459 in place the source voltage is about 2.1v. I can incrementally increase R11 from 10k up to 1M and voltage hardly gets to 2.5v. I have also used a 2N5458 with similar results. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The instructions for the GPCB product did indicate that a 10K at R11 should produce a Source voltage greater than 3V when using a 2N5459. Although suggested voltages are generally close to results you may have, sometimes variations in JFETs can produce different results.  If the audible results prove to be satisfactory, you can probably ignore the voltage variance.

Chadwick – aside from “proper voltage”, how does it “sound”?  Does it work to any degree?

The FET should not require any adjustment or tweak to it’s established design parameters. Please provide some more information. We’ve no idea what about your build DOES and DOES NOT work. I don’t believe the source voltage of the FET is that crucial.

And how, specifically please, are you trying to “bias” your Rat? The trimpot is for the Reutz mod and according to the build document, “Socket R7 and don’t install the trim pot.” – you currently have both R7 and the trimpot in place. If you remove R7, the trimpot should behave as anticipated.

To be perfectly frank, I think you may be misinterpreting the schematic.

Chadwick – a more complete photo of the wiring would be good too. Can’t see where all the wires go. Specifically the PCB In and Out points.
