InactiveSo I have purchased the kit from musicding. I’m a bit pissed because I was told it’s the latest version but it is not, it’s the version with wired pots.
My question is how do i secure the pcb in the box ? The only builds I have ever done have been pcb mounted pots. I was hoping it would be here for the weekend but unlikely !
Thanks in advance.

BarryKeymasterThe reason for not using Pot Mounted PCBs was so that you could place the pots where you like on your enclosure as opposed to being restricted to the PCB designers idea of where they should be placed.
I eventually was one of the last PCB guys to cave in to the idea of all PCB Mounted pots since it is a bit easier than running three individual wires.
That said we previously did all hand wired for a decade. The wires themselves hold the PCB in place.

As long as you have wiring that is not longer than two inches for each lug then you will have three wires on each pot. Finally the board will not move once you wired all of the pots. The board will tightly float above the pots.
See our Guides Page for more:
Many of us have been doing this for a very long time and it absolutely works. It is also good to know if you ever explore vero board or other DIY builds. For example this build below has no on-board pots.

SteveModeratorPersonally I use “Barry’s Gum Wadz” (https://guitarpcb.com/product/gum-wadz-pcb-mount/) and stick the PCB’s directly to the pot’s themselves. I have done 8 or 10 that way. Just make sure your pedal functions properly before final attachment. Pretty sticky stuff! 😉

InactiveThanks for all the tips guys. It’s my first build with wired pots so I am a touch anxious. I am sure it will come together well, just concerned the pots touching the pcb will cause issues !

BillyModeratorAs said it’s not that bad Matt
Just make sure you wire them correctly you’ll see a small 1 on the pot silkscreen for pot lug 1
I’ve built the majority of Barry’s boards in the 15 years or so I’ve been around these parts I actually prefer wired pots so, as Barry said you can place them where ever you like
You’ve also got Barry’s pot condoms or you can buy the plastic pot covers from a few places if you’re concerned about the pots touching the underside of the pcb

InactiveThanks for the help. Pot Condoms are hard to come by in the UK. I am thinking of sticking ‘rubber dots’ on the back of the pots ! Should do the same job I think.

Rubber spots of silicon would be fine that’s what I found repairing a Wampler plexi drive for someone or even stick rubber bumpers on them you use for feet
