GuestI’m extremely frustrated with this one. I tested the build before putting it into an enclosure, and it worked fine. Once I got it mounted, I get bypass signal, but no sound from the circuit. I don’t know how to find the problem with this. I doubt a visual will help much, as it’s likely something that can only be found with a multimeter, but if anyone can see an issue, let me know.

PlaysforfunModeratorWelcome to the forum, dhgagnon. The one thing that you had to solder after testing, and during mounting is the power jack. I think I see that you chose the wrong tab to solder the red wire to. That tab is for use of an internal battery when the external power is unplugged. Hints: get a DMM, build an audio probe. Check these links. https://guitarpcb.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/A-Beginners-Guide-to-Components.pdf page 20 for the DC jack http://www.guitarpcb.com/apps/forums/topics/show/7219163-how-to-build-an-audio-probe-photo-essay
Happy Building

GuestPlaysforfun, the led lights up, and every diagram I’ve ever seen says to connect the battery lead to the center tab, including the one you linked to. This is what has worked for me in the past. Also, that audio probe link appears to be dead. It leads me to a Page Not Found error.

PlaysforfunModeratorOK. My bad eyes on that one. Sorry. Looks good. Another possibility is that untrimmed wire ends or similar may be touching the case under the pots. Or even under the board after mounting? I’d trim the wire ends everywhere and look for any accidently ‘bridged pads’. In my time building, this issue usually ends up being a grounding issue for me. Do you have any sound at all at full volume?

BillyModeratorDo any of the solder joints touch anything they shouldn’t when it’s in the box eg input jack metal parts or one of the 400v cap pins near the pcb edge
Leave it wired in the box and lift the pcb up so it’s clear of potential shorts on any bare metal parts and see if it works
Your bypass works so you know the jacks are wired correctly and it’s only when you switch over to effects mode you’ve got no audio
If everything worked prior to boxing it and your offboard wiring is correct then it must be the solder side shorting to something in the enclosure or the very common and easy to do inserting your in cable to your out jack and visa versa with the enclosure being the wrong way up
You’d still get bypass but no effect
From what I can make out your wiring from pcb in and out to the 3PDT pcb looks correct

GuestI took the whole thing back out of the enclosure (minus the power jack, since it can’t come out) and it’s still not making sound through the circuit. Something must have come loose or broke when I put it into the enclosure. Maybe a cold solder joint or something, but I can’t see anything visually wrong.

BillyModeratorDo the old wire wiggling check and make sure you’re getting power to the main pcb
Heres an audio probe PDF

You can make a simple one like this
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1L12rjsR49pUTq7CRUhAzEFWz3li_pFvo/view?usp=drivesdk
Just solder one leg of a 100n to 1u film or ceramic capacitor to a mono jack tip then a wire to the other pin and something fairly robust for the probe to the wire end
Another wire to the jack ground with a croc clip to the wire end

GuestProgress, but I’m not sure why. I tried clipping the wire ends and wiggling cables. I took the circuit back out and started to get sound. However, I am only getting sound when the spst switch is in the first and third position. I get nothing in the center position at all. I’m also getting quite a lot of noise. I suspect something is loose, but I can’t isolate it.

GuestAnother thing to note is that I put everything back in the enclosure and I’m still getting sound. I tried wiring up another switch, but it’s doing the same thing, so I don’t think it’s a bad switch.

BillyModeratorMake sure your switch is an spdt on/off/on
It’s sometimes stamped on the metal side part
The switch just selects soft clipping options LED symmetric clipping or silicon diode asymmetric clipping and in the off middle position just the op amp
Noise I’d check all your ground connections are nice and secure
Obviously the source depends on what type of noise it is but I’d always check ground regardless

BarryKeymasterRe-flow on-board and off-board connections. It only takes a few minutes and often corrects a bad solder joint.
