This thing really rips. I added a diode selection switch with a DPDT board and an Afterblaster. An already versatile pedal got way moreso. I love to use the boost with the gain set at around 9:00-10:00 and the volume at around 3:00, particularly with the 1N34A diodes. With the gain high, the silicon 1N4148 diodes sound better to me. This pedal can do just about anything except chuggy metal. With the gain high and with or without the boost engaged, it’s more ripping and raw, less heavy and chuggy.

Not much to look at inside, because I didn’t plan out my wiring properly. My next build, I’m going to work on a cleaner interior.

It sounds incredible. Especially with the Afterblaster, this pedal can do everything except for chuggy metal. It does everything else and does it amazingly well. It may be my favorite dirt box for everything but metal. I’m going to have to experiment with this circuit. I have a J112 input buffer/boost circuit that I use in one of my fuzzes and in my heavily modded Distortion+ that I’m going to try putting in front of this, use a TL074 for the two gain stages in the SS-2 plus the added switchable boost, and maybe add a two-band EQ loosely based off the SS-3.
