So I’ve been on multiple guitar building websites and received consistently the same general research from their supposed gurus so I figured I would take a stab with the actual wiring geniuses. I’m currently building my first from scratch telecaster and I opted to go HH. What I’d like to do just so I can have the look (and simplicity) of a standard Tele control plate is to use a 4way switch and have the 4th position be both pups tapped and out of phase. Id like to do this without using a push/pull pot. Is it possible? Pups are 4 wire Dimarzio DP100s. Any help would be super appreciated.

I did something similar using some cheap Filtertron clones, a six position rotary switch I got from GuitarElectrinics.com and a PRS-ish wiring diagram also from that site – there are several wiring variations on the site as well.   I had to widen the front of the control cavity to fit the rotary switch and make a custom cover (kind of a retro Cowboy/Swoopy thing).  You may be able to find a 4-way wiring diagram there as well.

SammyD – Quite likely it will be difficult to do with a standard 4-way switch. How many poles does it have? Without a push-pull pot (or complex multi-pole, multi-throw switch) to provide that added switching dimension. Look for guitar wiring forums on FB or the web. Maybe try these sites that do all types of pick-up wiring . . . .

So I got a 5 way multi pole switch and standard pots and what I’m trying to achieve is this

    pos 1. Neck HB

pos 2. Both coils tapped and out of phase a la Jimi clean tone

pos 3. Neck and bridge HB

pos 4. Both coils tapped a la pos 4 on a strat (not real sure if that’s 1&3 in series

    pos 5. Bridge HB

i believe I’ve found the right schematic courtesy of the good folks at dimarzio and have a pic. I definitely realize that I could get more options with a switch or push/pull pots, but I really only care about making the options that I would actually use easy to access. Pic included for someone smarter than myself to point out what I got wrong please ????
