Hi all! Question, I am having some transistor clearance issues putting this PCB into a 1590b enclosure. I’m not sure if I can cut the leads short enough for proper clearance. I could remove the sockets and solder directly to the PCB (really don’t want to do that) or I guess I could mount them off board on a small piece for perf board. Any and all suggestions welcome!
    Thank you!

Shorten the leads. You can also angle bend them with pliers to properly fit in the sockets without shortening them too much further. In other words they do not need to just be straight leads pointed toward the socket holes. Just be careful to only do one bend and leave the lead alone because too many attempts to reposition can break the lead off entirely.

If you do not want to do that it looks like you still have plenty of lead to work with so shorten them a bit at a time till you get it. I would still give them a slight bend right before they are supposed to go into the socket.

    Mission accomplished! Thanks Barry!

Steve – Nice job in reducing the height on those. With that small bit of clearance, I suggest adding a bit of thin insulating material, like a couple strips of electrical tape, to the inside of the bottom plate where those BJT caps “might” touch the bare enclosure casing –  when completely closed & tightened up. Seeing as those BJTs are socketed, they may stand a chance of working loose a bit over time and slip downward towards the bottom plate. Cheers!

Cybercrow, that is a good tip, which I employ fairly often.  If I think there may be a clearance problem like this, I have some plastic duck tape I use to tape to the inside of the bottom plate of the enclosure.

Thanks gentleman for the suggestions. I will heed your advise. On another note (chalk this one up to another life lesson), I didn’t read the part where it stated that the Russian GT308 has a different pin put. This is what happens when you don’t read/follow the instructions closer. 🙁

On the upside Barry still had two sets for the P.U.F.F. so I purchased both of them.
