ModeratorI must admit that I was a little hesitant about buying this combo because I already have the NostalgiTone 70’s, which includes both of these circuits plus the Tweed circuit. However, what I couldn’t do with that pedal was switch the order of the circuits in the signal chain—and the ability to do that is a total game changer! To break it down, the Marshall circuit side is designed to mimic the high-gain, crunchy distortion of classic Marshall amplifiers, particularly reminiscent of the iconic Plexi or JCM amps, giving you the “British” amp tone in pedal form.
The Rangemaster circuit excels at pushing an amp into more harmonic territory, emphasizing upper mids and treble frequencies. You get a tighter low-end response, a more focused sound, and increased clarity and definition. It helps cut through the mix, especially when paired with the darker-sounding Marshall-style circuit. It’s great for lead tones or adding that extra bite to rhythm work.
Now, regarding the order switch: putting the Marshall into the Rangemaster allows you to overdrive the Rangemaster with the Marshall tone, leading to a boosted high-frequency response. The result is a bright, cutting lead tone with extra presence and articulation, perfect for solos that need to pierce through a dense mix. Reversing the order, with the Rangemaster boosting the Marshall, gives you a more saturated, creamy overdrive. The treble boost tightens the Marshall’s low end while emphasizing the upper mids, creating a richer, more harmonic-laden distortion. This setup works great for rhythm playing that demands punch and clarity without losing the full-bodied roar of the Marshall circuit.
No doubt Barry did a lot of homework designing these pedals. Having the ability to switch the order of the circuits is a game changer if you want to get both searing lead tones and saturated rhythm sounds from the same pedal. If you’re into classic rock, blues, or vintage overdriven tones (even metal), this pedal will be a killer addition to your setup.

KeymasterThat looks fantastic!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate the review. It’s great to see that you’re exploring all the nuances, especially with order switching. It really enhances versatility beyond just a standard setup. I’m glad you’re enjoying that added flexibility!
