I installed an AfterBlaster to the octave footswitch on my TOCT fuzz because there is a drop in volume when turning on the octave. I used a 2N5457 for Q1. I have the signal boosting slightly when the octave is engaged. (I have the octave connected to a momentary foot switch)
By the way, this is the very first effect pedal I built about 9/10 years ago. That’s why it’s such a mess inside. And I didn’t care enough to redo it when installing the AfterBlaster. I only fixed a couple things that really bothered me.
