GuestHi All:
New to pedal building and first post to the forum. After successfully building the one-knob fuzz pedal, my daughter and I have taken on the SHO ‘Nuff boost pedal. Overall, it’s going great, but we clearly are missing a part (the R7 Resistor and C2 10u capacitor). My question, however, is about the R3 and R4 Resistors. The diagram shows blue resistors. We received tan ones that also do not match the line patterns on the diagram. I’ve attached a photo of the ones we received (or, at least, have attempted to). Are these, in fact, the wrong Resistors? If not, how should they be oriented on the board?
Thanks,
Sable

GuestI can’t seem to add the photo for some reason. . . .

BarryKeymasterYou can only post a direct link to a photo and not a link pointing to a host.
Use the Picture Frame Icon to upload your photo alternatively.

The tan resistors do not necessarily mean they are wrong, they are just a different type. You can measure them using a digital multi-meter.

GuestI did confirm the tan resistors are correct via StewMac’s site. I am wondering, though, how they are to be oriented. Should the gold band be on the bottom? I also think, having re-read the instructions, that I understand that the R7 is not soldered on the main board, given that we are going with the two-knob version, but instead on the 3PDT board (which we did).

GuestDefinitely missing the 10u capacitor that goes in C2, though.

BarryKeymasterThere is no orientation with resistors.
Most of the capacitors are the same as well, except for electrolytic capacitors like the 10u which is why they are marked in some way, as well as being marked on the PCB silkscreen.
I think these two guides from our Guides Page will greatly benefit you.
As for R7 it is the CLR or current limiting resistor which is exclusively for the Status LED so you do not blow it out. If the Status LED is being mounted on the 3PDT wiring board then you must have the CLR also on the 3PDT wiring board.
I hope that helps.

GuestHuge help, Barry! We did read the beginner guides last voyage into pedal making, but it was a couple years ago, and I clearly have forgotten a lot. I’ll return to them. Thanks for your insights!
