GuestThis is my first “major” build. I believe that I have assembled the two boards correctly. I connected them using the build notes for the BnB and installed them into a1590 BS enclosure.
I then hooked the pedal up to the power supply on my pedal board and the lights lit and the switch… switched. I plugged my guitar into the pedal and the pedal into my amp and lo, there was sound! I had set the controls to 12 noon, except for the volume and the blend, which I set hard left. I then cracked the volume a bit and was treated to a clean tone I hadn’t heard before out of my rig, so I kinda think that the buffer is okay.
But, when I started dialing in the fuzzy signal, the fuzz was something else. I feel that I would be accurate in calling it a buzzsaw with a bad case of the walking f@®ts that only got worse the more I dialed it in.
I tried to find out whether the DSOTMV4’s signal is inverted or non-inverted or if this could be the problem, but, no joy.
Any help is greatly appreciated…

BillyModeratorSounds more like something’s mis biased Randy
Did you test the circuits individually before combining them
Did you try adjusting TR1 to see if it makes a difference
Here’s Tonmanns phase determination guide

Post some nice clear pics of the board so that component values and orientation can be clearly seen and wiring traced

BarryKeymasterThe phase is INVERTED. I cannot make any further determination based on the tone description.
This could also be a build issue and not necessarily just a phase issue. Typically a phase issue will sound like it is removing the bottom end from your tone.
Our general rule of thumb is to test and make sure the Main circuit board works fine on its own before putting it into a combo type build. Then you will know better if it is working properly or not. Being that you will need to insert a single stage circuit like our Stage 3 Booster which works quite well with the DSOTM it will be a good time to test the DSOTM by itself and see if you need to troubleshoot. Be sure to test the Phase correction circuit by itself as well before placing it in the combo.

GuestYeah, I realize that my description was devoid of any technical accuracy whatsoever, and can get somewhat “colorful”, but , I’m working on that… sorry…
I reckon my next move is to het up the ol’ desoldering iron and back up a few steps. I will isolate the Main board and see how it works on its own.
I will post my findings, hopefully, in a bit more coherent manner. Thanks for the feedback.
Pray for me…????????

GuestAddendum:
After reading back over your post, Barry, I assume you mean that I have to add another board to the build in order to balance out the mix. Since I’m using a 1590BS enclosure, which I have already drilled, that would make for a mighty snug situation.
Since my aim in all this is to get the tone as described for the DSOTMV4 with the ability to blend in dry signal, would it not be simpler to use the Paramix board? My understanding is that the Paramix deals with any phase issues present, and, would give me more options for using other pedals as well.????
Just spitballin’… Let me know what y’all think…????

BarryKeymasterYes you are correct.
If you plan on mixing and trading pedals then a Paramix is indeed a great tool to have on your pedal board.
I wouldn’t be caught without one and any Bass Player would be able to use any pedal they have ever wanted to.

mybudModeratorMaybe it would be a good idea to build the Paramix into a separate enclosure.
First, the board’s fairly big and second, you’d have the advantage of being able to use it in other contexts.
Finally, you would not have to shoehorn all the gadgetry into a small enclosure … I’ve been there, done that, messed up the build in the last phase, and so on a couple too many times.
Hope this helps a bit.

GuestYep, I think I’m going to just put the DSOTMV4 in the 1590bs that I already have drilled for it and put the Paramix (which I ordered this morning) in another, larger box I have on hand. I’m sure I can come up with another use for the BnB somewhere down the line.
Another thing I want to mention, I play guitar and bass, so I appreciate the fact that so many of the boards can be configured easily to work with either setup. I don’t have to compromise or spend extra money to get what I need. It’s very cool!????
Thanks again, guys…????
