InactiveHi all, greetings from Norway.
I’ve aquired two “Tone TWEQ” kits from Musikding (GuitarPCB supplier north-west of the Atlantic).
Q number 1: I plan to incorporate one kit with an Animal also from guitarPCB (also from Musikding). Before I bought the kits I browsed the www for exciting kits and read up on these at this site. I have a clear recollection of a build photo of exactly the Animal and the Tone TWEQ in a single pedal somewhere on this site, but can’t for the life of me seem to find it again? I am fairly confident that I’ll get it all together and working, but images for inspiration of how to place the PCBs in an enclosure would save my head some thinking (I’m hoping). I’ll put them in a 125 or BB depending on space and/or prefered knob-config. If such a post/tread exist would any here be able to push me in that direction via a functional link, or share own experience?
Q number 2: It was by accident I got two, must have tripped in the web shop. But hey, I’m hoping that it was a lucky mistake! On my gigging board I got a “Tonejob” from EQD, and I absolutely love it. Put an end to a decades long search for lead tones. I especially appreciate the immense volume it’s got on tap. I’m not looking for a TJ
clone, please delete or edit post if inappropriate. My question is can anyone provide me with an idea of the volume boost the Tone TWEQ holds? I’m contemplating whether to build the kit as a stand alone EQ/boost, or to save it for upcoming suitable projects that can profit from expanded tone shaping abilities.Q number 3: Any tips wrt balancing the volume on the EQ when paired with the Animal? At noon, by ear or..? My band mate’s got an original G2 so I would be able to A/B to some extent.
Kind regard
Frode Kolbu

GuestI do not have the photo you asked about. You may place the boards into your enclosure in a number of ways that will all work.
The Tone TwEQ is quite similar to the other expensive one you mentioned. So they both will have similar performance.
Balancing the volume will depend on the level of the signal you send to the Animal, the level of the Animal output, the amount of boost you give within the Tone TwEQ and the final output level you set. You may wish to have the same level as the bypassed level or you may wish to have a higher level when engaged. That is your preference.

InactiveThanks for the reply. I have found the build guide, but I could swear I had seen a gut shot of an Animal + Tone TWEQ as well…
I’ll do some thinking with my box options.
BTW based on the feedback, I think I’m going to assemble one as a dedicated EQ/boost pedal.

mybudModeratorHi and welcome Frode: There is some seriously classy documentation on a similar build from Cybercow (using a Red Special with the Tone TWEq) at Show off your build: Red Ranger Special (Red Special & Tone TwEQ). Hope this helps, even if not exactly identical to what you have in mind. Best, mybud

BillyModeratorThere’s a gutshot on the old forum from Trom not that it reveals much

CybercowParticipantHere’s how I added a Tone TwEQ to a Red Special build. . . . .

And here’s how it looks stuffed into a 125B enclosure. (It’s under the foam beneath the Red Special PCB.) . . . . . .
