I got a couple of ToneTwEQ boards a while back and was inspired to make my down DI with one of them.
This build starts out with a normal Tone TwEQ that outputs to a balanced line transformer. There is a filter network setup to filter out the 48V phantom power from the mixer before hitting the transformer. A voltage divider is set up by the filter network to that provide the EQ board with 10V so no external power supply is required.
The opamp used here is a 20 year old engineering sample from Ti that I found among other samples in my Dad’s basement. This is a TL032 which is a lower power JFET. I chose this opamp because of the low current supplied by phantom power.
Over all this thing sounds really transparent and the EQ gives a little extra flexibility.
