Switchable Buffer for Fuzz?

Hi Folks,

I’ve had some fun building the Industrial Fuzz and GBOF Fuzz Face as my intro to pedal building. For my next fuzz build, I’d love to add a buffer that will play nicely with my Dunlop GCB95 Wah in front, and also have the option to switch the buffer on or off.

I can see in the shop there’s a 3PDT Buffer Board and also a Buff n Blend. Wondering if either of these is advisable for what I want to achieve and how I might implement a switch to make the buffer optional?

This Youtube vid also shows a buffered pedal that allows the buffer to be fine-tuned to match the wah. Any tips on implementing an external pot (or internal trimpot) to achieve this would also be appreciated 🙂

Instead of a “buffer” of any sort, I’ve found an excellent solution from AMZ – a “Guitar Pickup Simulator” . . . .

I’ve built them into my fuzzes . . . .

And built them as stand alone pedals . . . .

Am I correct in assuming if the volume control were used here before a fuzz it would be like using the volume control on a guitar (dimed for full fuzz sound, and rolled back to clean up)? Or does it behave different in practice?

Nate – the pot you see on the stripboard is actually a “tone” control.

The “Volume” pot seen on the FuzzBucker pedal on the right acts just like the Volume control on a guitar.

The article in the link I posted explains both pedals in detail.
