    Hi there,

    I just completed a combo build with an overdrive and distortion circuit, followed by an analog delay.  I included a Silent Tuner as the input buffer to cut off the input signal and let the delay trails continue, and that works great.  The only problem is that there is a pop when the silence is engaged and that sound repeats in the delay trail.  I used the 1M resistor for R4 at the input and hoped that would prevent the sound. Any suggestions to quiet this down?

    Did you use a 3PDT board

    If not and you haven’t already done it try a diagonal link from input lug 1 to lug 6 on the 3PDT switch

    I had a loud pop on a script phase 90 tried both input and output pulldown resistors which didn’t change it as soon as I linked lugs 1 and 6 that cured it

    What kind of power supply are you using to power your pedals? Cheap power bricks can inject switch pop for poor or improper grounding.

    I built a regulated 9V transformer supply for this unit.  I appreciate your suggestion so I tested it with a battery and have the same issue. The pop isn’t all that objectionable with normal playing, but when the repeat trails capture it, it sounds pretty bad.  I’m using a momentary stomp switch so the pop is there on both the press and the release.  I’m thinking maybe I can use a 1M resistor as a drain, but was hoping that someone already had a proven solution.

    Thanks if anyone has more ideas!

    There are a lot of potential problems for pedal popping.

    The type of pop can be different as well leading to the issue.

    Thanks for your help.  I considered the points in that article and also in an article by Jack Orman at http://www.muzique.com/lab/pop.htm .  I’m beginning to suspect that the noise may be due to switch contact bounce.  As I mentioned, it is not a problem except for the echo tails and is not evident when the delay isn’t turned on.  I’m going to try using a better quality switch or maybe a relay circuit, when I have some time to get back to it.  I’ll let you know if that resolves the issue.

    I just want to update you on my progress with this issue.  I tried all sorts of things to stop the popping and was about to pull it out of my multi effect build when it occurred to me to try one last thing.  I had wired the board in at the very start of the chain to make use of the input buffer although that isn’t something that my build really needed.  I moved the input to another stage and the pop is nearly gone.  That leads me to believe that there is a small voltage potential difference at different points in my circuits.  That’s usually not a big issue but was exaggerated by the trail in the delay signals.  Now it’s working pretty well.
