ParticipantI just built a ShoNuf V3 that I’ve had sitting in a drawer for several years. In bypass mode I’m not getting any sound from my guitar. When I turn the pedal on I get a faint, dry guitar sound, and there is also a loud buzz that gets louder as the “Crackle” is turned up. I’m new to building pedals, so I’m hoping somebody can help me solve this issue. I don’t have any testing equipment, but the components all seem to be correct. Thanks.

ModeratorPost some nice well lit images of the pcb so that we can clearly see all component values and orientation and trace your offboard wiring to DC jack in and out jacks and 3PDT switch

ParticipantI realize this isn’t the cleanest build, and I did have to splice a piece of black wire with white wire coming from the power supply jack, but hopefully you can make sense of it. I’m now wondering if I should have shielded the pots.

ModeratorRick, I notice that your white wires from the in and out jacks (tips), which should be soldered to the 3PDT board I and O, but are going to the shonuf . You have the sleeves of the jacks (ground) going to the in and out pads of the 3PDT. Reconfigure your 3PDT board per build doc. Also it looks like the diodes are backwards. That will matter in this circuit. Take your time. Prove all the continuity that you can with a DMM as related to the build doc after visual inspection. You could even check continuity with an led and a watch battery. You can tape up a quick audio probe together with a capacitor and an instrument cord. Example: Does ground show up at all the points that it should? Sometimes my troubleshooting takes longer than the rest of the build. But I get smarter from it every time. Good luck.

ParticipantThanks for the reply. Did I not wire the in and out jacks like this?

ModeratorAs Playsforfun says you’ve got your in jack tip going to the ground pad on the main sho nuff pcb and your in jack sleeve/ ground going to BI (board in) on the 3PDT pcb
Swap the black and white wires around on the actual in jack solder lugs
It’s a lot easier to desolder and swap the wires on the in jack solder lugs rather than the pcbs
It’s difficult to clearly see your out jack connections with the black tape but it looks like it’s correctly wired

ParticipantIt’s weird, but I actually had the out jack wired the way you’re saying to, but I wasn’t getting any sound. I thought I had it wrong so I changed it to the way it is now. I’ll put it back and turn the diodes around.
