I built this back in February for a fund raising effort on a guitar forum that I frequent. Funds raised were not for the forum, but for one of the members fighting cancer.

I first built a G.B.O.F. in a plain white enclosure and the thread stirred interest in another build. In this case, it was essentially a commission. I worked with the person on what they were looking for and got some ideas on what it should look like.

I took the ideas – “something along the lines of Dennis Hopper tripping at Taos in the 60s, and I like bloody eyeballs.” LOL!

Not knowing what the heck Taos was, a little googling brought up a book about the area and that bird as a representative emblem.

The fractals were my idea and I made sure the transfer process was rough to give the idea of a tattered hippie shirt.

The transfer process is a laser printer iron on transfer that is intended for transferring images onto things like coffee mugs. It’s tricky to get a good transfer without over doing it, but it does a great job when you get it right.

The alignment of the LED is unfortunate but I was working with a predrilled enclosure for the sake of time.

The top center control has an LED that lights when the Stage 3 is kicked in.

The recipient loves it and put it to work on recordings right away.

The member fighting cancer won and is doing well.

    Obligatory gut shot.

Just to round out the story (not necessarily to show the build), here’s the G.B.O.F. build.

Nothing fancy and blurry pictures, but it was built in the freezing days of last December and all of the drilling and painting happened out in my garage. So, I had to come up with a theme.

”Oh, you think the coldness is your ally, you merely adopted the cold. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t feel the heat until I was already a pedal; by then, it was nothing to me but moist! The icicles betray you, because they belong to me. I will show you where I have made my home, I will be preparing to bring teh toanz. Then, I will break up. Your precious harmony, gratefully accepted. We will need it. Ah yes, I was wondering what would break first. The creamy fuzziness, or splatty distortion.
