Almost (but not quite) the Voodoo Redux, this one combines the all-silicon Gypsy Fuzz with the Vibe. The order switcher makes it very versatile in searching for Jimi’s sound.

My first time using the order switcher board and it really makes a big difference to the overall character of the sound.

And there you have it, my little tribute to the legend and appropriately named, I trust. Thanks for reading and wishing you all happy and successful builds.

That’s awesome and thanks for sharing.

You can get a diverse array of excellent Fuzz tones to mix with the Vibe for some screaming leads or soupy rhythm tones.

That will likely be my next Dual Combo offering.

    Thanks, Barry.

You’re dead right on the fuzz aspect (wink icon here) but the updated Vibe is to me the secret sauce. Light years better than the previous incarnation, if I may so, which was ok but had far fewer options. Just a rate knob IIRC.

Groovy on the dual combo idea, as JMH himself might have said.

    Mybud, Barry, and Trower fans…

Nice build!  I know you were going for Jimi sounds…since they have a fair bit of similarity, do you have any thoughts, recommendations, etc. on how close this would get me to Trower-sounding (overlooking my most obvious problem – talent)?

I really like Trower’s playing from the earlier days (i.e. “Bridge of Sighs”, “For Earth Below”, and so forth.  I think the overdrive he used (long after that period) was a modified design based on the “CDO” (letters in exactly the correct alphabetical order, if you smell what I’m stepping in).  How different are the two?

Last question:  Does anyone know how to EASILY add an expression pedal input or is that “out of bounds” based on the PCB design?

Thanks, guys…just pondering next possible projects here…

For the Trower tone I would combine the PlexAmp “Single” with the Vibe “Single”. If you want even more expandable amp tone you could substitute the PlexAmp for the 70s British “Single” though either would get you there.

    Nice build!
I too am a BIG fan of the “Order Switch”. Takes any combo and just makes it that much more versatile!!
