dudes…..wire the input and output of the board to the input and output jacks.

break the connection at the c17 r8 node. add a spdt switch.
    BOOM!
d’lay suddenly has tails. the thing has enough buffers in it so switching that one connection works mint.
try it and tell me what ya think.
sounds great like this. extra added bonus it’s always a buffer on for the end of your chain. couple wiring mods. done.

Looks great Jimi!  Did you run into any noise when switching?  Would you need to flip the switch around and ground the R8 connection when disconnecting C17?  I can’t test that right now.  I can see that C17 is blocking any DC from IC2a, so that should not create switching noise.

This should be a very nice option to use instead of normal bypass.

    it works great, ray!

you can even make it self oscillate in  bypass if you want to, and play over it. its pretty trippy! the VERY FIRST time its turned on and you engage it, it does pop slightly. but once the caps charge, its quiet, even with a dimed amp. the box clicking is louder than the pop it makes.

i made a video of it, so ya can see what it does.

i DID try pull downs. they made it worse. no need to short r8, tho you could i suppose. but then you’ll lose the ability to make it oscillate in bypass, which is actually kinda trippy… say ya hit a chord, make it feed back, and bypass and turn up the repeats… you can make it hold what you just did and play over it. or a lot of other trippy weirdness.

For clarity’s sake . . . .  the normal 3PDT stomp is replaced by a SPDT stomp using (interrupting) the R8 / C17 junction. And as you noted, wire the I/O jacks directly to the PCB. You get an always-on buffer and a delay with tails when engaged. Right?

Thanks for that Jimi! That’s great! Happy New Year brotha!

So I use the D’Lay circuit for all of my 70’s Rock God style guitar solos. I also use the Warmouth Mod on a footswitch which is setup for a quick Tommy Bolin style runway away repeat. Anytime you hear a long delay in a product demo of mine it is always the D’Lay! It is funny because I have tried so many of those expensive delay pedals and I have not kept one of them except for the MXR. I set the MXR for big tone slapback and I use the D’Lay for all the long stuff.

Here is a jam with my kids most people don’t see. All the big echo you hear at 2:19 to the end is the D’Lay.

This is just a single room SM57 straight into the iPad so nothing fancy.

I think the D’Lay is a most versatile, fantastic sounding circuit. This just adds a whole extra bunch of goodness!

    Thanks Jimi!

    wow,

    nice vid!

    really stoked you guys diggit.

so yeah, mark, wire the jacks directly to the input/output pads, and use a DPDT, not an SPDT… that way, ya still got led bypass control. but yep, easy breezy.

and ya end up with an always on buffer/boost/line driver for the end of your chain <should you like your echo there like i do> and turning it on engages the delay, turning it off, the delay has tails that either fade naturally or let you monkey with them while playing a dry guitar over them.

it DOES feedback a little stronger when disengaged, which makes it easier to do all the old echoplex tape echo tricks and stuff, too. its a def win – win this time i think.

you guys have a beautiful and happy new years. much love to all, and much peace, as well.

this same trick should work on ANY similar 2399 circuit, too
