I am currently working on a combo build that has 5 pots and 5 switches and have spent quite a lot of time laying out the pot and switch locations so that there is room to place the pcb’s without hitting other components.  I’m using a 1590BB enclosure, but it would have been a lot easier if I used a bigger one.  I think I have my template of where the hardware and associated drill holes are to go, but it has been a project as I thought I had a good layout a few times only to discover the pcb’s just weren’t going to fit properly, so back to the drawing board (literally) again.  Once I got all the items on my drawing, I printed it out and “dry fitted” the pcb’s to where they will be located with respect to all the other components.

I now at least have compiled a list of hardware dimensions that I can use on future projects, such as the 24mm square 3PDT wiring board.  I wish there was a compendium of hardware and PCB dimensions somewhere that I could have consulted.  I just wonder how many other pedal builders here have had the same difficulty in designing complicated layouts?

Do any of the builders here have any tips or tricks, or a good method for laying out a complex combo build, rather than the pretty much trial and error method I utilized for the pedal?
