I just finished my 4 Track Fuzz build and by all accounts its working correctly but I’m hearing a swirling sound when it’s on and I’m not playing. Now, I know I put the led in wrong because it is not coming on.could that be causing the swirling sound or is there something else I should be looking for?
The bypass indicator LED will not have any bearing on the “sound”.
No idea what kinda “swirling” sound you’ve got, but all fuzzes are going to have some level of a raised noise floor. That’s a given. Can you post an audio or video clip of that sound?
Also, I notice no protection on the back of this potentiometer to keep it from contacting the solder on the back of the main board. 2 others are hidden so I cannot say for them.
Thanks guys I didn’t realize that one pot didn’t have a cover. I have since put a cover on it. So the noise was still there but I think it was being caused by the fact that I just plugged my power adapter directly into the pedal instead of thru the power brick (MXR power supply). Once I put the pedal on the board and powered it thru the brick the noise went away.
Now the last issue I’m having is I’m doing something wrong when installing the led.. is there a certain depth the legs need to go into the board or is there some thing I’m missing? Does it go thru the top where you see D2 or do you come up thru the underside and solder on the D2 side? D2 = 4track fuzz logo side.
(I would get rid of that power adapter since it produces noise) you can always test pedals with a battery on a strap to rule out faulty power sources as part of a standard routine.
I can’t see the LED in the photo.
The Anode goes in the center pad and the Cathode goes in the non-white pad if using a standard LED.
Depth doesn’t matter as long as it is soldered to the pads.
You can also verify the LED is working with a 3 to 5v coin battery.
