BradleyParticipantA few years ago I built the Sub Commander from MFOS, but that’s another story. I ordered a slanted case to house it in but after I got it I knew there was no way it would fit inside so I tossed the case in a box. Every so often I’d come across the case and think I’d use it for a project and then toss it back in the box. This past weekend I came across it and decided to put all three NostalgiTone fuzzes in it. I placed the boards on it, eyed it to see if it all would fit or not and decided to go for it. I thought it might be a tight fit inside but there was actually more room than I thought since the bottom lid gave some extra space. For a plastic box it’s actually pretty sturdy even with footswitches. By Sunday evening I had it all together and playing on all three fuzzes.
I Googled ‘psychedelic’ and looked for a groovy image to use for the decal and found one the was really trippy. After I had applied the decal I realized my spacing on the lettering was off in places. I also noticed I forgot to label each fuzz type. I’ll redo it later but for now I’ll leave it like it is, it’s too fun to put down.
The Gypsy Fuzz is by far my favorite as it has more fuzz available. With the guitar volume knob it went from dirty to clean and bright and still had some volume. The 60’s fuzz didn’t get real fuzzy but seems to be a good boost with a little bite on top. I haven’t played with the Luna as much yet.

BarryKeymasterWith regard to the 60’s Fuzz not fuzzing what transistors did you use?
I ask because the 60s Fuzz does not use a conventional pinout. See BC183 datasheet. The pinout is different than all the other BC type transistors which is what the PCB is designed for so if you put another transistor type in there without bending the leads it will not work correctly.
And what did you use as the bias voltage? If it is not the transistor type the bias could be an issue as well.
Finally make sure the transistors are firmly seated as that can also be a cause.

BradleyParticipantHey Barry. I used the BC183A/BC183B set from your store. The bias is set at 4.4V with the fuzz engaged but didn’t experiment with different voltages. I measured the hFE on the transistors and they were 185 for Q1 and 346 for Q2. I was going to get my 60’s NT pedal out and compare the two but haven’t done that yet. I’ll reseat them as well. I noticed those pictures were taken before I put the transistors in but I used the recommended Qs for all the fuzzes. It’s still pretty cool to have them all in one box.

BarryKeymasterTry setting the Bias by ear if you can. That may be too low.
And you really need to try the Luna Fuzz.
