G’day team. Working on a Mkc v4 Klon, and have a strange issue.

The Gain 2 pot, which is wired the same and has the same value as the gain 1 pot per the build manual, turns the volume down as the pot is turned up. As I understand it, turning the pot up should increase the clean volume? What am I missing here?

I’ve replaced/rewired the B100k gain 2 pot with another gain 2 pot (in case the pot was bad), and rewired it with fresh wire (in case I botched the solder). A video of what I’m describing can be seen here (Vintage strat into a deluxe Reverb for the tone): https://youtu.be/wQdJnZV8F-I

Knob order on the pedal, top to bottom, gain 1, 2, treble, volume

Should I wire it backwards? Maybe i misvalued the resistors/caps that occur directly after that pot? You’re our only hope! What would you do?

    Very strange.

Flipped wiring or bad pot would be my first thought.  Yours too, since you’ve tested both those theories and the problem persists.

I would just switch out the 1 and 3 lug wires.  Turning the pot up (CW) increases resistance between lug 1 and 2 and decreases resistance between 2 and 3, turning it down (CCW) vice versa.  So flipping the wiring should do the trick.

I’ve built 3 of these v4 Klons in the last week and none had that particular issue.  I wonder if any of the wiser members have any other ideas.  Let me know how it works out.

Doesn’t make any sense to me. The green wires are going to lug #1 on the pots and to the #1 spot on the PCB. ??????

Double-check the voltage at the “VB” point – where R23, R24 & C18 meet. If that value is not exactly ½ of the voltage supply, goofy things can happen with the gain pots.

Thank you Cybercow and MilitaryMD for the sanity check.

Just got a chance to flip wires on lugs 1 and 3, turns out that did the trick! Unsure why that’s the case, I have one more Klon board, so we’ll see if the same thing happens on the next build.

    Case closed!

Glad to hear it worked out.  Great video- the pedal sounds great, and the graphics are top notch too!
