Having successfully built an MKC with the stock features – trimpot in lieu of an external 100K gain 2 pot, I now have builder’s remorse and wished I had put in the external Gain 2 control.  Does anyone know what would happen if I left the trimmer in place and wired in an external gain pot to the Gain 2 solder eyelets?  If I turned the trimmer to full clean, could I then use the external Gain 2 to adjust the gain to make things more all the way clean to slightly dirty as the current on board trimmer does?  I see that the trimmer and pot appear to be connected in parallel on the board looking at the schematic.

I am just being lazy and trying to see if I can save the step of desoldering the trimpot and pulling it off the board.  I also would avoid near total disassembly of the boxed pedal contents.

When I have changed my mind about using a trimmer, I have just cut the trimmer leads off and discarded it.  Leaving it in place would place the resistances in parallel and might not work properly.

Thanks for your response, Wilkie.  I guess the unknown is how the 100k pot will react with the trimmer in parallel.  Looks like I will eventually remove the trimmer and add an outboard gain pot.  I have done this before on other pedals I have built, although I removed bias trimpots and replaced them with an external bias control.  This made those pedals more useful (most with Ge transistors).

Two of those are in my avatar image in the back row.  The red on white pedal (Tonebender MkII pedal) and the light blue on white (fuzz face – first pedal I ever built).
