ParticipantWhat do you mean by reducing the gain? The internal gain?
I untwisted and separated the WF wires and there was no change unfortunately.
The wiring – I tried it the way you described first with no luck so i thought i’d just use all the wires (I figured it would be wired up with all three if I were to make it stock) – but that also led to no change.
I see that I scorched one of the caps, could that cause it? It sounds like white noise as soon as a turn up the time pot. The Volumes both work properly, the master raises and lowers the whole signal (wet & dry) and the Volume raises and lowers the noise. Turning the speed pot does get the tone up tone down sounds associated with runaway mods though. Maybe I’ll just disconnect the WF to see but I don’t expect any improvement really.

Participant@cybercow Thank you, sorry for the delayed reply. The answer to your questions is “Yes”. 🙂
“Channel 1” is always a cocked wah, but “channel 2” give you the option of using it as a second cocked wah, or by using an expression pedal. I have found over the years, that wahs….erode (for lack of a better word) and my theory is that some of that has to do with the large opening in the enclosure which allows moisture, dust, bugs, etc into the inner workings. My idea here is that enclosing everything but the potentiometer in a normal pedal enclosure will prolong the integrity of the effect and protect the expensive parts.
I am currently using it as my wah, mostly on channel two with the expression pedal, but also switch to the cocked channel when i play Sultans of Swing 😉

ParticipantThanks guys! There are so many typos and mistakes in this post….and the title isn’t even correct…I must’ve been reeaaallly tired when I wrote this. Is there a way to edit my previous post?

ParticipantLove the builds and special shout out to the 6-way switcher – I love those things! Awesome!

ParticipantLOL thanks guys, it’s probably too many options for a wah pedal, but I wanted to hear how all the inductors sounded without building 6 pedals. For people I build wahs for, I can have them dial in exactly what they like and then build the wah with those values and parts.

ParticipantNicely done! I got some of those same boxes and I might have a new idea on what to do with one of them!

ParticipantNicely done! The wiring of the circuits to work as a single unit is really cool. I also think the plexiplus is an awesome circuit for combo builds. Very cool!

ParticipantI hadn’t tried….until you asked. 🙂 Its surprisingly quiet (unless the OKF is involved), but it basically sounds like the proverbial “exploding speaker” sharp edge but a gigantic body.

ParticipantNicely done, this is excellent! I’ve been thinking of a similar type build, so you may need to excuse some copycatting. 😉

ParticipantThanks man, I really appreciate the kind words and the shout out on my “imagination” we’ll call it haha!
In regards to which diodes – they are some of my favorite parts to play with, because the difference in clipping structure makes up sooo much of the tone. For most of my 6-way inclusions, I like to use a wide range of types to cover most guitar/amp combos. This one has the following diode pairs 1) 1N4148 (stock) 2) BAT46 3) Green LEDs (color DOES make a difference) 4) 1SS137 (silicon) 5) 1N3666 (Ge) 6) 1N34A
In regards to placement within the circuit and if it will make a difference in first section vs second section, the short answer is YES. Different places within the circuit (depending on the layout) can do VERY different things, as with the Muff. Here, we have one stage driving the next so think of it as stacking gain pedals. In some circuits, there could be soft clipping and hard clipping. Hard clipping is identified by one side of the diode loop being connected to ground and is a much more apparent clipping than soft clipping. @barry, @cybercow or @wilkie1 could probably provide much better explanation as to why and how this occurs, but I just let my ears be the guide and try different things. But you will definitely get very different results in this circuit as the first and second clipping loops are driving each other.

ParticipantThis looks great both outside an on the inside. That shrink wrap on the pot lugs is super pretty. If I only had the patience….
Call me crazy, but I think you could fit a toggle switch in there along with the Emerald Ring. It may even stand up along the sidewall.
Awesome work, really professional! Love the artwork.

ParticipantNice! That’s a great tip and the gel super glue is definitely what I need. Thanks for sharing!

ParticipantThanks man! It’s definitely one of the most used pedals on the board now. The tap tempo is held in place simply by being soldered to the tap switch. I cut the leads off of a n4001 since they are heavier than most and soldered them to the switch so i could spread them far enough to hit the tap tempo holes.
The leds are another animal…mine are gorilla glued in place lol, but i would recommend possibly hot glue or something less runny as it seeped through around the leds and I had to carefully clean it off the face. Maybe some other guys can chime in on how they keep leds in place without a bezel. Alternately – I think you could prob use bezels, but you need to be very careful of spacing to both fit properly. Hope this helps!

ParticipantThanks Barry! I’m stoked you are digging the new builds!
This one starts off pretty straightforward into a stock SWAH (although I may have used the wrong pot taper for the sensitivity) – then goes to a MoWah fitted with a red Fasel inductor with a Q floor of 10k and a 50k pot, giving noon around the same value as a stock crybaby. Due to space restraints, I opted for a 6 way cap switcher instead of the RotoTone 8 that I’ve used in my expression wahs. This will really only make an audible difference when using the expression pedal, so if anyone is planning on not using that, I wouldnt bother with this many options and use the on-board C8-C9 switch. If you are planning to use an expression pedal, the values I have chosen for my sweeps are 1) 5n6 (stock) 2) 6n8 3) 10n 4) 15n 5) 22n 6) 33n – this is built for compensating between different guitars and amps etc, so the differences are subtle (unlike the chorus in my other post). the Wah pot is then connected to the 2KJ to have two presets, however, for channel 2, i have placed a normally closed stereo jack between the 2KJ and the channel 2 wah knob, (theoretically) allowing an expression pedal to be plugged in and override the preset manually. I say theoretically, because I am still sourcing a shell to build the expression pedal. I’ll report back on that when it’s complete.
As i said above, I love the wah, and cocked wah filter sounds, so this was a perfect addition to my board….along with my expression-format super-MoWah “the Midnight Howler” as detailed in a previous post 😉
