Hey everyone, I am hoping someone can help me out here.  I have built several D’Lays and I have never had this issue before.  The dry signal passes fine, as soon as I turn one of the speed knobs or the Delay Volume up at all I get instant feedback noise.  The delay is built with a 2 Knob Job on the speed pots to allow for two delay lengths and the Warmoth mod on an external jack for runaways.

I have reflowed the solder on the board, tried swapping the ICs and checked the connections of the 2KJ.  I have included photos below.

Have you tried reducing the gain? Also twisting and braiding extra wire shouldn’t be dismissed as a factor. Shielded wire and/or isolated jack for WF mod? Just guessing. Oh and when offboarding the time pot you dont need a wire to lug 3 since it is used as a variable pot. You see they are joined together at the board. You can jumper them at the pot with a piece of cut-off from a component. Likewise remove the lug 3 wires and jumper 2 and 3 together at the pots coming off of the 2KJ and avoid a large complicated loop. Hope any of his helps.

What do you mean by reducing the gain?  The internal gain?

I untwisted and separated the WF wires and there was no change unfortunately.

The wiring – I tried it the way you described first with no luck so i thought i’d just use all the wires (I figured it would be wired up with all three if I were to make it stock) – but that also led to no change.

I see that I scorched one of the caps, could that cause it?  It sounds like white noise as soon as a turn up the time pot.  The Volumes both work properly, the master raises and lowers the whole signal (wet & dry) and the Volume raises and lowers the noise.  Turning the speed pot does get the tone up tone down sounds associated with runaway mods though.  Maybe I’ll just disconnect the WF to see but I don’t expect any improvement really.

So the instant feedback is gone? Yes, I meant the internal gain as described on the doc. I’ve scorched plenty of caps like that. Probably not an issue. Are your voltages in line with your old builds? Nothing out of whack?
