Big OParticipantI’m another one that doesn’t like stuffing a lot of boards in a smaller enclosure, so I probably use more 1590BB’s than most. But since I don’t gig anymore, I don’t have to worry about pedal board space.
I do like playing around with graphics though as that is one of the fun things I like about building pedals. I have returned to the less is more school when it comes to graphics as I felt my designs were getting too busy. If you notice that most of the commercial pedal builders keep their graphics simple.
Big OParticipantAgree with above. Input Jack wiring looks okay. Output Jack wires are opposite way they should be. This is a quick fix and you should be in business.
Big OParticipantWell I believe I saw 5 of mine, although I have made some better ones in my own opinion, that have been posted on this forum.
Big OParticipantYes, the most maddening things to happen when involved with your own “business” are IT problems. They can take a lot of time and effort to solve. I have been there and done that.
Big OParticipantMy drill press is set up on top of a floor standing table saw in my garage next to my work bench. After moving to FL I lost my basement workshop space which I dearly miss. Unfortunately there a lot of nooks and crannies for errant drill debris/metal shavings to get into so I keep my shop vac at the ready next to my table top drill press.
Wilkie has me beat. We will be celebrating only just our 37th wedding anniversary.
Big OParticipantYes, that was my old method. Now I pretty much vacuum up whats in the boxes and a little bit in the surrounding area. But no far flung debris feet away from the drill press.
Big OParticipantI was able to sign in on my iPad just now after a couple of attempts, but the sign in is still acting a little funky. Not going to tempt fate right now and will stay signed in.
Big OParticipantBeen having mucho issues logging in, at least for 3 or or more days now. I finally got logged in and have no idea why finally my credentials were accepted. But I will take it.
Big OParticipantI was thinking about something like this a couple of months ago. Like maybe pairing a KOTB with something like the 1W Chime Amp for a mini Marshall project. Could something like this be done?
Big OParticipantMerry Christmas to everyone! And happy pedal building in the new year! I am quite thankful for the great community we have here on this forum.
It seems like my well wishes I thought I posted yesterday somehow didn’t get to the board (and noticed the board was unreachable or down last evening for me).
Big OParticipantVery good idea. That would help people get the idea of what the pedal should sound like playing in a band situation.
Big OParticipantAha! You got my Wing Commander reference. My favorite game series from my old mid 90’s PC gaming days.
Big OParticipantPower problem as I suspected. Moved the 9V power wire from the 3PDT switch board over to the left sided pad as above and it fires right up. The right sided pad under the +9V designation must be a ground. Using my continuity checker it is not continuous with the right sided pad. Either I have a bad board or it is the way the board was designed. I also figured out I was reading the circuit diagram wrong. The power goes to the +9V pad and connects with the R5, R6 and D1 pads. I checked and there was continuity from the left sided eyelet goes all the way to D1 (Duh).
I took a break and thought about it more – always a good thing to do when you are stuck. Sorry I missed your reply Barry, and I probably would have fixed it sooner had I checked back with the board quicker.
Big OParticipantThe DMM should be set (at least on mine) to 20V DC and just put the negative probe/lead into the output jack sleeve.
Big OParticipantI have built 2 Ge FF’s in the past (Not PUFF’s but NPN Ge FF’s) that used 25K trimpots for the biasing. I replaced the trimmers with 25K pots for external bias controls. The 25K value worked fine in this circuit with no problems like you have experienced. Maybe think about switching to a 25K linear pot for external bias control without the added resistors. As mentioned above wire the pot to the bias pot lugs 2 and 3. You won’t have to place a jumper between lugs 2 and 1 if you’re only using lugs 2 and 3.
Big OParticipantWho really invented the first working light bulb and when?
A: Thomas Edison a long time ago.
Op Amps have basically three amplifiers or stages, the input differential stage, the gain stage, and the what?
A: Earsplitting Output Stage
According to Ohms Law, when the current flowing through any portion of a circuit is known, the voltage dropped across that portion of the circuit can be determined by multiplying the current times the what?
A: E=IR You figure it out.
AC is more likely to cause a victim’s heart to do what than DC electricity?
A: Cardiac Depolarization resulting in asystole
In the year 1970 who was the best guitar player in the world?
A: Me
By the way – most of these are tongue in cheek answers.
Big OParticipantBarry’s advice is the “old school” way of doing things. His advice applies to many of the old pedal circuit designs. Riding guitar knobs can do lots of effects such as cleaning up dirt, wah-like effect (tone knob) and string instrument bowing effect (volume swells).
Other than cleaning up a fuzz or other dirt type effect, I am not the greatest at using the guitar knobs to accomplish the above mentioned effects. I rather use a volume pedal and wah pedal because I am just not dexterous enough to do the knob maneuvers well.
