InactiveProbably the wrong place to ask…possibly not.
Where are all the PURP – PUMP’D UP RANGEMASTER builds?
First post and, what I hope is a successful adventure for my first workingbuild (I attempted another Rangemaster treble booster kit twice with no success recently)I doubt whether I am the only one that has/is going to attempt one.
I’d like to see if anyone has done a build so I can get an idea of how the back of the unit looks please.
Cheers! Doc.

InactiveAhem. On further inspection I have found one on the old site. Humble apologies.

ChuckParticipantHere’s mine from 5+ years ago.

InactiveThank you Chuck. You have a tidy unit.

ChuckParticipantIt dawned on me after I posted that Barry’s current PURP is designed for the more spacious 1590B rather than the 1590A of the older version – which really enforces tidiness.

Big OParticipantI have a couple Rangemaster type pedals I built, but I think it was not posted on this site because it is not a PURP. I do have a PURP to eventually build but it’s down my list.
It’s a simple circuit and most treble booster circuits are basically a variation on a theme. The Hornby Skewes TB can be built on a GBOF board using a lower gain NPN silicon transistor so there is no need to bias it. Just a slightly modified LPB circuit. Sounds not too different from a Rangemaster.

BarryKeymasterWhen people post they do not always use my name or even a relative name for their build.
So this will likely limit your searches.
Here are a few images from a quick glance.

This does not count any PURPs built in a Combo Box or ones from my collection.
Maybe now the next search will result in more PURP finds 😉
That said it would be nice if more people posted their build photos as well.
You will find my boards in the strangest places sometimes:

InactiveThank you to all. That has helped me to visualise the build while it’s still in the mail!

Big OParticipantHere is an example of a Hornby Skewes TB built with a GBOF board.

More modified HS TB (now in the repair garage waiting to have some fixes made). Note that the HS boosters have an input capacitor selector to change the tone of the pedal similar to the GuitarPCB PURP. IMO this is an invaluable mod to the treble booster / Rangemaster type circuits.

Finally a Rangemaster that is similar, but not quite the same as the GuitarPCB PURP from another pedal kit / PCB site. It also has a variable input capacitor circuit that I further modified as well as an external bias (another mod). It is less versatile in some ways compared to the PURP, and is without a charge pump, which I feel is superior for playing well with other pedals. It is laid out similar to a Joe Gore Fiendmaster.

I feel that the PURP is the best of the RM circuits that are modified copies of the original RM because the different features offered on this PCB really does not change the basic overall Rangemaster itself, but adds improvements to it.

InactiveI really appreciate the effort you made Big O, that is an inspiration!
