There was a discussion about The Vibe not long ago where someone asked if there was a way to modify The Vibe for extra depth. I chimed in with a description of the depth mod I did on a Dr Phybes. Got to thinking about it and dug out my Vibe that I’ve been neglecting for a while. Started with this:

Pulled the guts and grabbed a new light gold box from Tayda, removed R30, added a B1M pot with a 470K resistor, cleaned up some (but not all) of the rat’s nest wiring, and slid everything in the new box with top jacks.
Here’s the outsides along side with a recently re-reboxed Dr Phybes also with the top jacks:

And the somewhat cleaned up guts:

Not sure why I decided to stick the board in head down in the original build and I’m really concerned about some of my wiring choices in that build. The depth mod I used on the Dr Phybes works on The Vibe but smarter folks may be able to figure out how to tune it a little better. Turning the Depth pot all the way left drops the resistance down to nearly 470K – on The Vibe this darkens the tone somewhat in addition to adding more space between the top and bottom of the phase, but this is way more subtle than it is on the phaser. At about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way up the tone is less dark and at a lower rate the vibe is pretty nice. At the half way point it sounds pretty much like the un-moded Vibe. With the Depth pot fully right resistance is up around 1.5M and the vibe is almost invisible – I know it’s there but it’s really short and with the rate way up it’s kind of hard to hear. YMMV.
