Just about wrapped on this one The Range has a Gremlin. Other than that, the preamps are both amazing! I never thought I’d get such a throaty growl when slamming the Tweed into the Marshall … sweet!

I ponied up and sprung for the pre-soldered J201’s. For the enclosure, I routed recessed cavities for the Tolex & Tweed. Had to add a brass plate under the foot switches after I routed through the center foot switch cavity, such is life.

The two-tone finish is automotive paint: Silver Metal Flake (top), Olive Drab (sides), buried under three coats of 2K clear. The original plan was to bury the Tolex, but after reading about how clear coats melt Tolex, I added the Tolex & Tweed after the clearcoat. The Tweed was topped with two coats of brushed on lacquer. I used knurled pot-shafts for the bass/mid/treble due to no set-screw knobs available in gold for the Boss-style knobs.

Years ago, I bought a sample of assorted tolex & tweeds from Mojotone. They still sell them by the yard, but, I’m not sure if samples are readily available.
