InactiveFinally finished building this 9V bowl of spaghetti. Using the Plexi-Plus, TwEQ, and Stage 3 circuits it features pre/post boost as well as switchable Plexi-Plus and TwEQ options for tone versatility all packed into a 1590BB. You can see some patented NASA Isolation technology™ going being used on the circuits + some other exposed areas since it’s so packed. It is a bit glitchy and squeals from time to time when knobs are cranked too high. I’m not exactly too sure why but when it works, it sounds great despite my sad sad sad playing abilities. I personally feel the design was lacking because I was just so eager to finish it however I’m overall pleased. It’s also missing the knobs because I’m a knob and ordered some that were too large in diameter. There are a lot of lessons learned here especially considering this is my second pedal built. Originally I was going to build a Plexi-plus/MKC3 combo but drew inspiration from @Chris’ PlexiPre. I have a few builds in mind lined up. First being an MKC3 I’m going to gift a friend with all the mods listed in the build documentation. After that I have a Blues Buster / Tube Screaming Ultra / Afterblaster combo in mind. There was a lot planning that went into this and thankfully it went according to the plan! Ask me anything except for a demo and I’ll try to answer to the best of my abilities 🙂

GuestThat’s quite a contrast between inside and out. It’s a brilliant idea and you nailed it!

KeymasterThat is a very nice and useful combo!
Thanks for sharing.

ParticipantOh yea! Stuffed like a turkey! That didn’t take you long. I have had a build or two that squealed hen everything is cranked – I re-biased the Qs by ear to tone it down a bit and the squeal was eliminated. Same thing goes for the Stage3, depending on your Q, it may be slightly different. I personally love to try different biases to see where the sweet spot is for the particular Qs in the build. Well done!

InactiveThank you fig and Barry, I appreciate the kind words!
For the Plexi, I ended up switching Q5 for a 2n5458 and biasing to 5V then by ear which eliminated squealing from that part of the build. The only noise that happens is from the TwEQ when it’s in the order of Boost -> Plexi -> EQ (I think; haven’t had much time to play with it and take note).March 19, 2024 at 2:30 am #31583Anonymous
GuestIs there a diagram that shows how to wire three (or more) pcb’s to a single power source jack?

KeymasterGuitarPCB legacy PCBs as well as wiring boards all have multiple pads for connecting extra power and ground.
I would also encourage you to read the Combo Build Guide which is located on our Guides Page (see top menu bar)
