I purchased a few factory powder coated Hammond 1590Bs with the intent to use them for a pedals.
My local maker space has a 90W CO2 laser available for use. Trying to figure out how I could use it for pedal making; it doesn’t cut metal and only engraved metal with a special primer; I stumbled on a YouTube video of people engraving powder coated travel tumblers (Yeti style stainless steel).
I went down and played with the laser. After a few tries and sacrificing a 1590LLBK to the process, I got the settings dialed in and cut the above enclosure.
I’m currently waiting for some gold fishing lure powder coat to arrive. It bakes at a lower temperature than the factory powder coat. I bought a used toaster oven for the process, but I’m going to try filling the space I cut out and re-powder coating with a different (gold in this case) color.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
