Black Ratt and a Phaser

Finished these two yesterday and today.  First one up is Barry’s Ratt Deluxe – really wanted to make this a white rat but Cybercow already bagged that one.  Socketed the diodes, C3, R5, and R7 – C3, R5 and R7 are populated with the straight BD values right now and may get played with later.  Diodes are a pair of 1N914s and a pair of 5mm UV LEDs (stole that from Cybercow).  Replaced the trimmer with a 1K 9mm pot mounted on the side for the Ruetz mod.  Q1 is a 2N5457.  Thought it didn’t work when I first fired it up because there wasn’t any noise but it was just waiting – it is mean and evil, wicked and nasty.

First one finished was a FuzzDog P45 v2 that came from the other side of the pond.  This version offers options and I opted for two – the external bias pot doesn’t make sense since on most phasers this is generally get it right and never ever touch it again but the mix pot and vibe-ish switch are kind of cool in a mild mannered Phase 45 way.

Funny thing with the trannies in this one – I had a matched pair set aside for something like this but I couldn’t get them to bias so I pulled a pair out of a 1590A build and they worked fine after a tiny bit of a turn on the trimmer.  Put the two that didn’t work in this one in the 1590A and they worked perfectly without tweaking the trimmer in that one?!?
