    Hey!

I built a Bass OD and am having some issues. The volume knob does virtually nothing and the gain knob is crazy loud/distorted by 10% on the pot. The signal powers on, passives signal in both bypass and engaged, and I biased each transistor to 5V; any idea what could be going on here?

    Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. I noticed for R11 you used a 33K? instead of a 1K. Your board soldering looks mint. The switch may have a few cold joints. 4, 5 and 7 look great, the other lugs maybe not. Hard to tell. What are you using for transistors and in what order? There is a ton of gain in this circuit. It has been said in the past to use 68K for R4 and R7 for an overall reduction in gain. Your results may vary.

Good eye, thank you! I must have had a mis-labeled bag from Pedal Parts – I went off those and not the build docs. My mistake. I should only have received three 33k’s and four 1k’s but I got them the other way around.

Years ago, a bad batch of capacitors made it to market after which I got into the habit of testing every component I install. Resistors are the easiest to check.

I’m an amateur, so I could be completely off here – but can I just swap the value of R1 going into the whole circuit to reduce the gain?

Change R11 to 1K and bass happiness should bring you holiday joy!
