    Hi all,

Just finished up the Cranky Charles V3.1. Pedal sounds fantastic, but I’m losing a lot of volume when engaged compared to bypass. Is there anything I can do with the resistors/caps/pots to keep the volume boosted. In the schematic, it looks like R15 (6k8) feeds into the volume. Any change there that might boost the volume more?

    Thanks all

Obviously there is an issue as we would not release a circuit that would cause you to lose volume.

We need good clear photos of the top of the board and list any substitutions you may have made.

Anyway it is better to find the issue than try to mod it away.

I definitely think it’s an issue on my end, not a bad circuit. I didn’t make any subs at all. And I listed V3.1 above, I meant V1.1. Please see attached. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Okay so R7 needs to be 470 ohm and not 470k ohm. Top right.

When you fix that it will also give you a chance to properly seat the cap beside it as well.

When you look at the schematic for R7 you will see exactly why 470k as opposed to 470R was killing your volume. Easy mistake to make and happens to all of us but that should take care of it and be sure to report back.

Well, that’s a lesson in making sure to double check the resistor value!!! Completely fixed it, nearly blew me through the wall, back to the future style!!!

    Thank you so much. Perfect!!

I am actually slower building pedals than I used to.  That is because I test every component prior to soldering and double check the value with the instructions.  I make a lot less mistakes that way, especially since I use my own resistor stockpile rather than using kits.  I have made the 470K / 470R mistake a couple of times in the past.  It happens to everyone.
