The BC549C is a low-noise NPN transistor, and the C suffix means it is the highest gain grade of the family, with a gain range of 420 to 800. Plenty of gain on tap for boosts, fuzzes, and buffers, without the noise and inconsistency of ungraded parts. It is a through-hole TO-92 part, so it solders easily into any DIY build.
