Wonderful read, and masterfully done!  One question – what is the Pi mod, and can it still be done to the v3.5 boards? I am assuming that it  replaces the tone stack as you said it causes the mid scoop mod to become moot (and mute) but I don’t see that mod called out in the build doc.

    Thanks!

Chris – thanks man! The Pi mod can be found (originally) as “Mod #5” in the “Muff’N Advanced Builder’s Mod Guide” and is NOT found in the stock build doc. For the Muff’N 3.5 build doc, page 7 of the Build Guide. The original Advanced Mods Guide mentions that the mod removes the Pi filter and tone knob from the muff circuit, and replaces it with a resistor, giving the muff a flatter tone curve (no mid scoop). This is also the mod point wherein one can exploit even further tone expansion for the Muff by adding (inserting) a Tone TwEQ.

Since building the Klingon Muff and reporting on it, Barry has modified both the PCB and build docs and has incorporated all of the advanced builder mods into the one build doc.

Don’t be afraid to color outside the lines either. I do so often and just keep a notepad handy on my bench to keep track of what I’m doing and where a build is going when doing so. That way, I have a reference to look back upon when something doesn’t work out correctly (acceptably) and I have some bread crumbs to follow back to where I was before coloring outside the lines.

    Happy building!
